Aim of the course
To enable the postgraduate student to:
19- To understand appropriate time of intervention in potential orthodontic cases
20- To enable development and application of appropriate professional attitudes and communication.
21- Recognize the interrelationship between orthodontics and other dental specialties
22- Communicate with other healthcare professionals both verbally and in globally accepted written formats.
Course Contents
• Adults: Comprehensive and Adjunctive Orthodontic Treatment
• Interdisciplinary (Multidisciplinary) Treatment:
• Orthodontic-Restorative patient
• Orthodontic-periodontic patient
• Ortho-Esthetics
• Orthodontic-Medical
a) Knowledge and understanding
a.1. Recognize the interrelationship between orthodontics and other dental specialties
a.2. Define mucogingival and osseous dental problems
a.3. To distinguish between different periodontal and bone grafts.
a.4. To recognize different restorative and periodontal procedures.
a.5. Recognize the interrelationship between orthodontics and other dental specialties.
a.6. Recognize the guidelines of managing ortho-restorative and ortho-perio problems.
b) Intellectual Skills
b.1. Identify perio-orthodontic problems
b.2. Identify ortho-restorative problems
b.3. Plan treatment for cases with mucogingival and osseous defects
b.4. Select treatment for cases with traumatized, impacted, ankylosed and missed teeth
b.5.To correlate orthodontics with other dental and non-dental professions
c) Professional and Practical Skills
c.1. Team members practice problem solving beyond the confines of their discipline.
c.2. Assess periodontally compromised patients
c.3. Generate proper treatment with the for ortho-perio compromised cases
c.4. Formulate a suitable plan for patients with missed or malformed teeth.
c.5. Develop a proper treatment plan with the prosthodontist for ortho-resorative compromised cases.
