Aim of the course
To enable the postgraduate student to:
At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
1- Assess information affecting oral and general health including clinical, basic and behavioral science topics using available library, online and other resources.
2- Explain the hierarchy of evidence
3- Read, critically evaluate and discuss the dental literature.
4- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of different study designs
5- Recognize the role of life-long learning, self-assessment and continuous improvement in maintaining competency and use outcomes of patient care to guide professional development.

• Critical appraisal.
• Systematic search strategy
• Bias and different types of bias.
• Comparison of the Different Types of Systematic Reviews
• Difference between review of literature and systematic review

a.2. understand the differences between EBD and traditional approaches to making clinical decisions
a.3. Explain how EBD incorporates research evidence, along with clinical expertise and patient preferences

a.5. Describe levels of evidence in science and practice
a.6. Understand biases and limitations associated with
a.7. Recognize the barriers of using evidence-based practice in dental care.

b.1. Critique, synthesize and apply information from scientific and lay sources to improve the public's oral health.
b.2. Assess risk for oral diseases and select appropriate, evidence-based preventive interventions and strategies to promote health and control oral diseases at the individual and population level.
