Aim of the course

This course enables the student to classify, diagnose & manage traumatic dental injuries in children

Course Contents

• Epidemiology of traumatic dental injuries • Classification of trauma to anterior teeth • Descriptive classification • Ellis & Davey classification • Modified Ellis & Davey classification • Diagnosis of traumatic dental injuries • History • Clinical examination • Vitality test • Radiographic exam • Treatment of traumatic dental injuries in permanent dentition • Treatment of traumatic dental injuries in primary dentition • Reactions of tooth to trauma. • Recent innovations in management of traumatized anterior teeth • Endodontic management following traumatic injuries in young permanent teeth

a) Knowledge and understanding

a1-Comprehend the epidemiology & etiology of traumatic dental injuries. a2-Understand the classifications of traumatic dental injuries a3- Describe the steps for diagnosing traumatic dental injuries in children a4- Identify treatment of traumatic dental injuries in both permanent & primary teeth a5-Realize the different reactions of the tooth to trauma. a6-Describe recent innovations in management of traumatized anterior teeth

b) Intellectual Skills

b1-Make decisions regarding management of traumatic dental injuries in both primary & permanent dentitions b2-Integrate personal, medical & dental history together with clinical & radiographic findings to manage both immediate & delayed effects of traumatic dental injuries
