Aim of the course

To provide comprehensive dental care to his pediatric patients in order to produce a more ideal oral structure from a metabolic, functional & esthetic view point in these growing organisms It provides experience in proper management, behavior modification & the ability to establish a positive attitude towards dental treatment in child patient

Course Contents

Practical: • Proper case selection • Clinic regulations & application of rubber dam • Chair positions /operator`s position • Lay out for bracket table & cleanliness • Wrapping, infection control & asepsis • Selection of instruments • Behavior management • Diagnostic chart • Local anesthesia & extraction • Cavity preparation & restoration & Pulp therapy • Space maintenance problems • Preparation for chrome steel crowns • Obtaining radiographs • Giving postoperative instructions

a) Knowledge and understanding

a1- Memorize the steps for diagnosis, examination & treatment planning a2- Describe the factors which influence child behavior in dental office & the different psychological & pharmacological approaches for behavior management a3- Recognize the different methods and techniques of local anesthesia in children a4- Memorize the advantages of using a rubber dam a5- Identify the different restorative techniques & materials for children a6- Describe pulp therapy techniques for primary & young permanent teeth a7- State indications & contraindications of stainless steel crowns a8-Describe different methods of space analysis & state management for different cases of space problems a9-State radiographic techniques for children

b) Intellectual Skills

b1- Make decisions regarding management of deep caries in both primary & young permanent dentitions b2-Integrate personal, medical & dental history together with clinical & radiographic findings

c) Professional and Practical Skills

c1- Fill in a diagnostic chart c2- Manage efficiently child behavior in the dental office c3-Administer local anesthesia for child dental patient c4-Carry out dental extractions in children c5-Apply a rubber dam c6-Carry out cavity preparations & restorations in primary teeth c7-Perform pulp therapy procedures in primary & young permanent teeth c8-Prepare primary teeth to receive stainless steel crowns c9-Construct appropriate space maintainers to solve space maintenance problems in primary & mixed dentitions c10-Obtaining radiographs & performing processing
